Jeremy would always ask his grandmother Millie to make brisket more than just twice a year. Since it was a time consuming dish to make, Jeremy’s grandmother would take on the challenge when she found the time. Being that brisket was traditionally holiday food, Millie would get creative on how she would serve it. What started as just brisket turned into brisket sandwiches, brisket pita’s and even brisket with eggs the next day.
Understanding the history of brisket goes way back to another time, but one of the main reasons it became so popular in most Ashkenazi jewish food was the price and the amount of mouths it could feed. It can be utilized in so many ways but always had one goal in mind which was sharing with family and friends.
There are many elements to the brisket taco that make it so tasty. I would have to say the braised brisket pairs perfectly with the hibiscus pickled onions, balancing the sweet with the savory off the tongue. As well as the lime acidity cutting some of the fatty flavors keeps this taco in line.
